2006 -07 Season Recap

The season has come to an end and the Lady Longhorns are busy making plans for the summer. We are concentrating on making a better showing in Region 6 AAAAA during the 2007-08 season.
This past season was one of growth and development for our team. This year's team was a combination of former JV players and a few returning players from the varsity team of 2006-07. Although we didn't win many games (5-21), the team gained valuable experience on the varsity level and playing with each other.
We suffered a huge loss on December 16, 2006 when Amber Henry was injured in the Northview game. She tore her ACL but she is on the road to recovery. She had a successful surgery and is going to physical therapy as well as working with a personal trainer. Amber was averaging 12 points per game before she was injured. We look forward to having her back soon. We have to say goodbye to 3 seniors this year. Our seniors were wonderful leaders, who have been with the program for 4 years: Jamila Cosom, Jazzmyn Stitts, and Ana Trujillo. We will miss their leadership, work ethic, and unique personalities.
Our JV and 9th grade teams experienced success and had good seasons. Each team improved throughout the year and many of the players made huge strides in their individual improvement. There will be a competitve atmosphere during tryouts next year with the younger players pushing the veterans for varsity spots.
Thanks to all the assistant coaches who helped make this season an important step forward towards making our program successful and for the improvement in each of the players.
Julie Devlin coached the 9th grade team and did an excellent job with their fundamental development and team play.
Kristy Simpson was the head coach of the JV team this year. She had a strong nucleus of players who learned to play together and played hard every game.
KG Brown was the varsity assistant this year and provided invaluable experience with game strategy and individual player development.
Look for something new and exciting next year.

Kell Basketball Camp

Kell Basketball Youth Camp 2006:
We had a great time during the past week working with the girls during camp. The first session was for the players in 2nd through 5th grade. We worked on fundamentals every day with passing, shooting, dribbling, and man to man defense.
The second session was for the middle school players from 6th grade through 9th grade. We concentrated on fundamentals as well as scrimmaging.
Some of the high school players worked the camp and did a great job with instructing the girls. Coach Simpson, Coach Brown, and Coach Watkins kept all of us on schedule, fed, and having a great time with games and competitions.
I hope everyone has a great summer, continues to work on their basketball skills, and enjoys the pictures from this year's camp.
